In 2014, the second novel in VC Andrews' best selling Dollanganger series, Petals on the Wind was made for television on Lifetime. It starred Ellen Burstyn, Heather Graham, Rose McIver, and Wyatt Nash. Karen Moncrieff directed.

In this film, we begin with the death of the Dollanganger children's benefactor, Mr. Paul Sheffield, and then the focus shifts to the children's individual lives, and ultimately Cathy's revenge.

Say what you will about book to film adaptation, if you simply appreciate a film on its own, instead of comparing it to the book, you will be much happier. This is what I do, simply because I know that books rarely translate to film well and the filmmakers use different elements to make the film both visually appealing and allow viewers to understand the storyline.

With that said, I enjoyed the adaptation of Petals on the Wind. This was my second favorite book of the series, and to see it realized into film was so exciting for me. I thought most of the major events were covered. Of course, some had to be cut to keep it a good length and to not be confusing. To see Cathy's revenge, the trauma of losing Bart, and her inevitable reunion with Christopher, was a powerful ending.
