In 2019, a film adaptation of VC Andrews' novel Heaven, was released. It starred Annalise Basso, Chris McNally, Julie Benz, James Rittinger, Chris William Martin, Matthew Nelson-Mahood, Jessica Clement and Samantha Coughlan. Paul Shapiro directed.

The Casteel series was my next favorite after the Dollanganger series and I was very excited that Lifetime was adapting it to film. Although some things changed, namely Heaven's hair color, it was still a lovely adaptation and I felt it brought the books to life in a powerful manner.

Say what you will about book to film adaptation, if you simply appreciate a film on its own, instead of comparing it to the book, you will be much happier. This is what I do, simply because I know that books rarely translate to film well and the filmmakers use different elements to make the film both visually appealing and allow viewers to understand the storyline.

With that said, I felt some pieces of the story may have been altered and left out but the overall story was intact. The treatment of Heaven was unapologetically brought to life and her desire to be accepted and belong to a family was evident. The pure horror of the Casteel children's fates were also portrayed and you very much felt the breakdown of the family Heaven clung to. The movie did a great job of keeping the heart of the story pure, which I loved.
