In 2014 a second movie version of VC Andrews' best selling book Flowers in the Attic was made for television on Lifetime. It starred Ellen Burstyn, Heather Graham, Kiernan Shipka, and Mason Dye. Deborah Chow directed.

In this version of the film, the incest that occurs between Cathy and Christopher is realized and the ending coincides with future events from the remaining books in the series. This is due to the fact that Lifetime planned to release three more films, completing four of the five Dollanganger novels into film.

Say what you will about book to film adaptation, if you simply appreciate a film on its own, instead of comparing it to the book, you will be much happier. This is what I do, simply because I know that books rarely translate to film well and the filmmakers use different elements to make the film both visually appealing and allow viewers to understand the storyline.

With that said, I enjoyed the updated Flowers in the Attic. Anything VC Andrews realized in film is exciting to me, and I thought the actors did a great job portraying the characters. I also liked that more of the book's events were included in the film and the ending meant more films to come.
