♥   music

Music is something I came to appreciate later in life, well, I guess I appreciated it in a different more significant way later in life. My early tastes were a lot sweeter than later on. I still like pop and dance music, but I also love rock and alternative.

My first favorites were New Kids on the Block, Madonna, TLC, and Color Me Badd. I still like these bands, but not as much as others... Well, except for New Kids on the Block, I will always LOVE them :)

I had a few favorites in the late 90s early The Goo Goo Dolls, Counting Crows, The Wallflowers, Bush, Matchbox 20, and Live. The lyrics of their songs moved me and inspired me in many ways. I just related to so much of what they were saying, and their voices are beautiful. I am still a fan of these bands. I will never tire of them.

I happened on my second favorite band (after NKOTB) by accident, I almost didn't discover them at all! I had forgotten to mail back my Columbia House or BMG reply card declining the featured artist, and opened the box to discover a band I had never heard of. Who the hell was SR-71?!?! They looked like a boy band, sorry to say, but they certainly didn't sound like one (I didn't particularly like N'Sync or Backstreet), they rocked. I was shocked that I never heard anything about them. I searched online for them and read their story and realized that they were not as well known as they should have been! I love all of their songs, I couldn't get enough. I bought their second album, and then their third, which was only a Japanese import. I still keep up with them and what they are doing, I hope they release another album soon!

Tying for my second favorite band is The Goo Goo Dolls. I loved Name before I even knew the name of the band who sang it! And when Iris hit I researched them a bit and found out they have released four albums prior to Dizzy Up the Girl!!! why didn't they hit it big before? Hold Me Up is an excellent album!!! Their self-titled debut is harder, but still you can hear the talent, John's voice gets stronger with time... So I fell in love with them and love them still. They are amazing, and although I haven't gone to a show, I'd love it!!! On my to-do list :)

My next favorite band is Kane and I discovered them after I heard the lead singer perform on an episode of Angel. Christian Kane played Lindsey McDonald, a lawyer for Wolfram & Hart, and his voice was amazing, his song was beautiful. So I looked online and discovered he was in a band, and I ordered his cds. I did the same thing after I saw James Marsters sing in the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Once More With Feeling), and I got his band's cd (Ghost of the Robot) and his solo cds. He also became a favorite. Cool voice, and great songs.

When I blogged I would quote lyrics a lot. I was always listening to music when I wrote. Music has been something to hold on to, for me. I can relate to the lyrics and lose myself in the beat. It's like I feel like I'm going to be all right and I can make it through another day. Music takes me there...
